Product Description

 

The TPI-1003-A is basically the TPI-1002-A on Steroids. It is designed with a higher RF output (+16dBm). It has a bit more dynamic range (TBD).

This unit does not include the RF Detector circuits of the TPI-1001-B but does include the Auxiliary input section of the 1001-B unit.

This synthesizer utilizes the Analog Devices PLL integrated circuit ADF4351.

Reference is 10MHz Temperature Compensated Clock Oscillator at +/-2.5 ppm over temperature +/-1.5 ppm at room temp

Buffered 10MHz reference output available at the Back panel. The Reference is accessed via a BNC connector. The output is matched for 50 ohm coaxial cable

External 10MHz Reference Input on the back panel (BNC). This External input is double buffered so that neither of the 10MHz signal  inputs will influence the reference selection.

System Trigger Output is located on the front panel. There are many available features.

FM sinewave input with some advanced capability for low frequency modulation

The unit has been *calibrated and RF Output Power is accurate within +/-1dBm with 90% of all readings within 0.6dB of reported power 35MHz to 4GHz.

Output Power is available from +16dBm to -70dBm (86dB linear range). Simply add a fixed attenuator of 20dB to get ranges down to -106dBm.

Attenuator Features:

Attenuator section can be swept at any values between +16 to -85dBm.

Attenuator can be “Single” stepped both up and down.

Step size is adjustable from -1 to -85dB

Attenuator Sweep speed is adjustable

RF Sweep Features:

RF Sweep function with 1KHz resolution and selectable time per step

Single Step function Up/Down selectable step size

Single Sweep Function or Continuous loop

Modulation Features:

FSK, OOK input 0v – 3.3v, 0v – 5v input signal

Other Features:

Lock Detect LED front panel. When the LED is on it indicates that the Frequency is locked and stable.

MCU/SOFTWARE:
An Atmel microcontroller (MCU) is used to communicate with the synthesizer, the attenuators, and various other devices within the unit. The MCU also facilitates communication with the host PC via a USB connection. When the unit receives power, the MCU configures the hardware to the state last saved within TPI Link. In this way, the TPI-1003-A can operate stand-alone as a fixed frequency signal generator, a scanner, a modulated signal generator, a radio beacon, or can run a stored script. TPI Link is used to control the unit in real-time and to configure the power up state of the unit. You can control as many units as you have USB ports. The TPI-1003-A uses the same software package as the TPI-1002-A and the TPI-1001-B and all three devices can run simultaneously.

Software is the real prize with this unit. The software is incredible and very powerful.

Future software upgrades for both TPI Link and the MCU’s firmware can be distributed as a single PC application, a new version of TPI Link, which has the MCU’s firmware embedded within it. TPI Link can upload the new firmware directly to the unit without the need for any other programs or hardware.
The GUI, TPI Link, runs on a PC and communicates with the unit via the USB port. TPI Link can completely configure and operate the unit. The unit’s configuration can be saved in nonvolatile (persistent) memory in the unit for use each time the unit is powered. For this reason TPI Link does not necessarily have to be running whenever the unit is in use, but it facilitates many real-time activities and can monitor the various power supplies in the unit.

This package includes a CD with drivers and an executable file that will install and run on a PC with Win-XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Win 10 (USB cable included).

*calibrated means that my spectrum analyzer and a calibrated RF cable were used to set the power calibration table used for power output. This is not NIST certified but believe me it is good enough for 99% of all your testing needs.
